After School Camp Counselor - Part-time

Department: Parks & Leisure

Reports to: Recreation Coordinator

Salary: $9:00

 

JOB SUMMARY:

The City of Stephenville is seeking a part-time After School Camp Counselor. This position works under the general supervision of the Recreation Coordinator.  

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Develops a positive relationship with the public by responding to phone, walk-in patrons, email, and fax inquiries.

  • Counselors will provide participants with an environment in which they can feel safe, enjoy wholesome recreation activities, and participate in appropriate social opportunities with their peers.

  • Counselors will be responsible to know and follow all City, Departmental, and Program standards, policies, and procedures that apply to the City of Stephenville Youth Programs.

  • Counselors must ensure that participants are released only to a parent or an adult designated by the parent. All Program sites will have a copy of the Department-approved plan to verify the identity of a person authorized to pick up a participant if that person is not known to the Leader.

  • Lead, supervise, and conduct athletic, child care room, and recreation program classes and activities.

  • Supervise children properly and respond immediately during emergencies, including administering first aid as necessary.

  • Effectively communicate with children, parents/guardians, and the public.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Counselors will be part-time or temporary employees of the City of Stephenville.

  • Must be sixteen (16) years of age or older.

  • Counselors should be able to consistently exhibit competency, good judgment, and self-control when working with children.

  • Counselors must relate to children with courtesy, respect, tolerance, and patience.

  • Counselors must have completed a course in first aid and Cardio Pulmonary.

  • Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid for Infant/Child/Adult with AED based on either American Heart Association or American Red Cross standard.

  • Counselors must pass a background investigation including testing for illegal substances.

  • Valid Texas Driver’s License and a safe driving record.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The employee is frequently required to bend, stoop, crouch, carry, and lift up to 30lbs. Work is generally performed in a climate-controlled office with some exposure to the outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
