Recreation Assistant - Full-Time

Department: Parks & Leisure Services

Reports to: Recreation Superintendent

Hourly Salary: $15.33 - $17.96 DOE

FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt
 

JOB SUMMARY:

This is a Full-Time position under the administrative direction of the Recreation Supervisor. The Recreation Assistant coordinates and administers the daily operations of the Parks and Leisure Services office. This position assists with all aspects of services including athletics, aquatics, facility rentals and special events.  This position is highly visible involving constant contact with the public, patrons, vendors, and sponsors.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • (40%) Coordinates and administers the daily operations of the Parks and Leisure Services office. Providing excellent customer service to the public by responding to phone calls, walk in patrons, email and social media inquiries.

  • (30%) Manages facility, park and event reservations/registrations including scheduling staff when necessary.

  • (10%) Responsible for marketing of all Parks and Leisure Services events/programs through social media and print.

  • (10%) Responsible for the collection, tracking and deposit of all financial transactions for the department.

  • (10%) Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: 

  • Ability to establish good working relationships with the public, subordinates, and supervisors. Ability to maintain self-control and composure and set a professional example for the staff and participants.

  • Proficient in MS Word, Windows, and Excel.  Basic competency in Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and/or Microsoft Publisher required. 

  • Pleasant and distinct telephone voice, good verbal fluency and grammar, and a well-groomed professional appearance.

  • Ability to understand, analyze and implement ideas and concepts.

  • Ability to build seasonal quality staff within a short time frame annually.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or a GED equivalent and two years of progressively responsible experience in a customer service position.

  • Basic first aid, CPR and AED certification required within three (3) months of date of hire.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The majority of work is performed in an office setting and may be subject to ordinary risks typically found in an office environment.  This position requires the ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time in the day-to-day functions of the position.  The position may also require repetitive hand movement from time to time and fine coordination in typing documents using a computer.  Must be able to lift, drag, hold, pull, push and carry objects weighing up to 30 lbs. (such as file storage boxes), assisting other employees in the office, and moving or removing stored records. Position also requires the ability to communicate effectively, courteously, and clearly in English, verbally and in writing with staff, and possibly the public on occasion.
