Recreation Coordinator 

Department: Parks & Leisure Services

Reports To: Recreation Superintendent 

Salary: DOQ: $29,104 - $32,053

 

JOB SUMMARY

The City of Stephenville is seeking a Recreation Coordinator. This is a full-time position working under the direction of the Recreation Superintendent. This position is responsible for developing, planning, programming, supervising, coordinating, and evaluating comprehensive after-school services, summer camp, special events, and marketing services and amenities for the community.

 

Directly supervises, part-time employees, volunteers, and contract professionals for recreation programs, facilities, and events as assigned. Recommends actions related to hiring, disciplinary actions, advancement, or other changes in employee status. Knowledge of budget management principles.

 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Skills in organizing, planning, and preparing programs, camps, and events.

  • Knowledge and experience in event management.

  • Skills in selecting, supervising, appraising, counseling, and discharging personnel.

  • Knowledge of philosophy, methods, and techniques for administering recreation services, budgeting, and accounting procedures.

  • Skills in using general office equipment including skills in Microsoft Office, Adobe Suites, and Recreation software.

  • Ability to analyze community needs, problem solve and implement solutions, and relate to the needs of all age groups.

  • Ability to establish a good working relationship with the public, subordinates, and supervisors. Ability to maintain self-control and composure and set a professional example for the staff and participants.

  • Ability to build seasonal quality staff within a short timeframe annually.

 

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITY

  • Skills in organizing, planning, and preparing materials and evaluating goals and objectives.

  • Skills in selecting, supervising, appraising, counseling, and discharging personnel.

  • Knowledge of philosophy, methods, and techniques for administering recreation services and special events, along with budget preparation and analysis accordingly.

  • Ability to understand, analyze and implement ideas and concepts.

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

  • Must have a valid Texas driver’s license, and currently have and maintain a satisfactory driving record.

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited (4) four-year college or university in Recreation or related field.

  • (1) Year of progressively responsible experience in recreation programming, camp management, supervisory role, and event management.

  • CPR, First Aid, AED certification required within the first three (3) months of hire or promotion.

  • Must pass a background investigation, drug test, and have a valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Occasionally works with cleaning supplies may position themselves to reach areas that need cleaning, including most areas within the facility.

  • Frequently moves office equipment, tables, chair, or like material/equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

  • Frequently operates a computer and other office equipment, such as a computer, copy machine, and computer printer.

  • Commonly communicates with individuals who have inquiries about their programs, activities. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The majority of work is performed in an office setting and may be subject to ordinary risks typically found in an office environment. Frequently works in outdoor weather conditions.

  • The employee is subject to environmental conditions. Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
