Recreation Supervisor - Full-Time

Department:  Parks & Leisure
Reports To:  Parks and Recreation Director

FLSA: Non-Exempt
Hourly Salary: $16.29 - $18.08

 

JOB SUMMARY

This is full-time position will be working under the direct supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director.  The supervisor develops and coordinates activities of public recreation programs, athletics, aquatics, and special events. Supervises front desk staff and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Recreation Hall and Splashville. This position is highly visible to the public and must maintain a high level of professionalism with both internal and external customers. This position is also responsible for cultivating a department that thrives on innovation, teamwork, efficiency, and fun.

 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:  

  • Develops and promotes public recreation programs, activities, and special events including, but not limited to, arts and crafts, cultural arts, nature study, social recreation, cooking, games, after school activities, fitness, day camps, and center based special events.

  • Develops and promotes athletic leagues & tournaments and aquatics programs, activities including, but not limited to, softball, baseball, basketball, volleyball, flag football, track, and swim team, swim lessons and water aerobics.

  • Adapts recreation programs to meet the needs of the community and special groups.

  • Introduces new program activities, equipment, and materials to staff.

  • Interprets recreation services and trends to public and participates in community meetings and organizational planning.

  • Identifies and purchases approved recreation equipment and supplies and processes payments.

  • Works closely with Director of Parks and Leisure, Parks and Recreation Superintendent, Parks Supervisor, and Recreation Coordinator to ensure that the programs are well balanced, coordinated and integrated in the programming for the City of Stephenville. 

  • Maintains records of program activities, awards, equipment and inventory, and expenses.

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Recreation Hall and Splashville

  • Responsible for payroll for part time and full-time staff members.

  • May perform other assignments and handle special projects, as required.

  • Regular and timely attendance is required, as well as the ability to get along with
    others in a professional and cordial manner.

 

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITY 

  • Skills in organizing, planning, and preparing materials and evaluating goals and objectives

  • Skills in selecting, supervising, appraising, counseling, and discharging personnel

  • Knowledge of philosophy, methods, and techniques for administering recreation services and special events, along with budget preparation and analysis accordingly

  • Ability to analyze community needs, problem solve and implement solutions, and relate to the needs of all age groups

  • Ability to establish a good working relationship with the public, subordinates, and supervisors

  • Ability to maintain self-control and composure and set a professional example for the staff and participants

  • Ability to understand, analyze and implement ideas and concepts

  • Ability to build seasonal quality staff within a short timeframe annually  

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Must have a valid Texas driver’s license, and currently have and maintain a satisfactory driving record

  • Must pass a background investigation and drug test

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  There are no special vision requirements.
 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions; extreme cold (non-weather); and extreme heat (non-weather).  The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; work near moving mechanical parts; work in high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; risk of electrical shock; and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
