CITY OF STEPHENVILLE HAS PROPOSED A TAX RATE THAT WILL RAISE MORE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS THAN LAST YEAR'S TAX RATE.  

 

THE TAX RATE WILL EFFECTIVELY BE RAISED BY 4.78 PERCENT AND WILL RAISE TAXES FOR MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS ON A $100,000 HOME BY APPROXIMATELY $-3.40.

 

A maximum tax rate of $0.3829 per $100 valuation was proposed by the governing body of City of Stephenville at the Special City Council Meeting held on August 6, 2024 at 5:30 pm in the Council Chambers at City Hall located at 298 W. Washington, Stephenville, Texas.

A PUBLIC HEARING ON THE PROPOSED TAX RATE WILL BE HELD ON SEPTEMBER 17, 2024 AT 5:30 PM AT STEPHENVILLE CITY COUNCIL CHAMBERS, CITY HALL, 298 W. WASHINGTON, STEPHENVILLE TX.  AFTER THE PUBLIC HEARING, THE STEPHENVILLE CITY COUNCIL WILL ADOPT THE TAX RATE FOR 2024.

The proposed maximum tax rate is not greater than the voter-approval tax rate. As a result, City of Stephenville is not required to hold an election at which voters could accept or reject the adopted tax rate.  However, you can express your support for or opposition to the proposed tax rate by contacting the City of Stephenville at mharris@stephenvilletx.gov or by attending the public hearing mentioned above.

The 86th Texas Legislature modified the manner in which the voter-approval tax rate is calculated to limit the rate of growth of property taxes in the state.
