Abandoned And Junk Vehicles

ity of Stephenville follows guidelines set forth by state law concerning abandoned or junked motor vehicles. The City of Stephenville defines a junk vehicle as a vehicle, boat, trailer, tractor, etc. that is wrecked, dismantled or partially dismantled, discarded, and has remained inoperable for more than

30 consecutive days on private property or 72 consecutive hours on public property.

A junked motor vehicle must be visible from a public place or public right- of-way. This provision does not include vehicles that are completely enclosed in a garage or screened from public view by a privacy fence.  Residents are given written notice to remove, store, or make operational such vehicles within 30 days or face legal action as well as towing and possible demolition of the junked motor vehicle.
