Reports To: Streets Superintendent
Hourly Range: $19.02 - $22.85
JOB SUMMARY
The City of Stephenville is seeking to hire a full-time Heavy Equipment Operator in the Street Department. The position works under the direction of the Street Superintendent.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Participates in the work of maintenance crews performing various construction and maintenance activities in streets and drainage infrastructure

Conducts street and drainage maintenance and repair utilizing, equipment, materials, and tools required to complete work orders
-
Participates in the maintenance and repairs of all equipment and ensures equipment is in safe and proper working order; Reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor
-
Assists in flagging traffic around work sites

Operates light and heavy machinery such as shovel, rake, dump truck, loader, backhoe, roller, mechanical broom, etc. in accordance with all safety guidelines

Responds to emergency maintenance requests during normal business hours and after hours when on call
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITY
Must have knowledge of:

Applicable traffic laws, ordinances, and regulations in the operation of assigned equipment

Work hazards and proper safety precautions
-
Proper traffic control placement of warning signs and work barricades
Ability to:
-
Complete maintenance and repair work orders
-
Understand/communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
-
Understand utility location marks
-
Work as a team member and follow the directions of the crew leader
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers/public

Ability to communicate (read, write and speak) effectively in the English language

Maintain effective audio-visual ability and perception needed for:

Making observations
-
Communicating with others

Reading and writing
-
Operating assigned equipment
Maintain a physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following:
-
Walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods of time
-
Lifting, carrying, and/or holding supplies/equipment, in excess of 100 lbs.

Climbing, squatting and stooping in the performance of routine job tasks
Effectively deal with personal danger, which may include exposure to:
-
Extremes in hot and cold temperatures associated with working outdoors
-
Levels of extreme noise
-
Hazards associated with working in trenches
-
Mechanical and environmental hazards
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Must be a United States Citizen
-
Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent
-
Must hold a valid Texas driver’s license, and currently have and maintain a satisfactory driving record
-
Must pass a background investigation and drug test
-
A Texas State Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The majority of this work is performed outside in all types of weather including extreme heat and cold weather conditions.
