Salary: $13.23 - $19.93 hourly
JOB SUMMARY
The City of Stephenville is seeking to hire a full-time Light Equipment Operator in the Streets Department. The position works under the direction of the Utility Superintendent.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Typical Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Participates in the work of maintenance crews performing various construction and maintenance activities.

Conducts utility maintenance and repair utilizing, equipment, materials, and tools required to complete work orders.
-
Collects necessary materials, tools, equipment required to maintain, clean, and repair water and wastewater infrastructure.
-
Performs work assignments; follows all city and departmental regulations and safety requirements while operating equipment and performing work.

Contributes to work site actions to assure the safety rules and regulations are followed, and the work zone, traffic control, and all equipment are in safe operating condition.

Participates in the maintenance and repairs of all equipment and ensures equipment is in safe and proper working order; Reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor.

Assists in flagging traffic around work sites.
-
Operates light machinery in accordance with all safety guidelines.
-
Supports the divisional operations with regular and timely attendance.
-
Responds to emergency maintenance requests during normal business hours and after hours when on call.

Supports the relationship between the City of Stephenville and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with the public and City staff, maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.

Other Important Responsibilities and Duties: Answer questions and provide information to the public regarding problems related to assigned areas; investigate complaints and recommend corrective action as necessary to resolve complaints.

May assist in gathering information regarding equipment and supplies for budgetary purposes.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Must have knowledge of:

Principles, practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in public utility maintenance.

Applicable traffic laws, ordinances, and regulations in the operation of assigned equipment.

Principles and procedures of record keeping.

Work hazards and proper safety precautions.

Proper placement of warning signs and work barricades.
-
Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations.

Ability to:

Complete maintenance and repair work orders.

Understand and communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Understand utility location marks.
-
Work as a team member and follow the directions of the crew leader.

Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain water, wastewater systems, water meters, and specialty equipment.

Maintain, promote and encourage safe work practices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
-
Must be a United States Citizen
-
Must hold a valid Texas driver’s license and have and maintain a satisfactory driving record
-
Ability to communicate (read, write and speak) effectively in the English language
-
High School Diploma or GED required
Experience and Training Guidelines:
-
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
-
A Texas State Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment.
-
Water Distribution or Wastewater Collection license is highly desired.
